Oris chose Liip as its partner for web projects several years ago. During this partnership, we implemented a login area for Oris customers (my.oris.ch) as well as a shop checkout. We used Drupal CMS as the supporting technology for this. Consequently, our next logical step was to move its website over to Drupal to streamline and simplify its system landscape. The website being replaced did not meet modern standards or the requirements of a contemporary online experience. This is the ideal starting point for creating something new: a modern, high-performance, user-friendly website.
Technical implementation
We relied on proven technologies to realise this project. The website was built on the high-performance Drupal CMS and designed using the flexible front-end framework VUE/Nuxt. Using GraphQL enabled efficient, flexible communications between the back end and front end. One particular highlight for editors was the integration of our ‘blökkli’ module, which we developed in-hous and simplified and accelerated content creation.
Mid-project challenges and insights
As is often the case, every project throws up unforeseen issues, which we reflect on during a debrief to gain further insights. Accordingly, we had to overcome a number of challenges together with Oris as we worked towards the website going live. Careful planning and coordination were required to adapt the design to the structure that Drupal requires. Differing availabilities of Oris watches in different countries and stores increased the level of complexity when we were incorporating product information from the company’s product information management system (PIM) into the new website.
We ran a password-protected ‘soft launch’ a few weeks before the go-live. This allowed the code created to be tested in advance in a live environment. Thanks to the password protection, we could thoroughly test the entire website under real conditions and rectify any errors without customers noticing any changes. Regular onsite meetings at Oris’s or Liip’s premises also proved to be extremely valuable. We were able to work together to draft the first set of content and use it to present the CMS to editors. The editors gradually became acquainted with the CMS, and we could answer any questions that arose. We directly incorporated these insights into the creation process, helping to ensure that the go-live went smoothly. We will be putting this valuable experience to use in future projects.
The result: a fresh, user-friendly website
The website now has a fresh design that represents Oris in the best possible way. Merging the various platforms has not only improved the user experience and made the website significantly easier to maintain. We are excited about the next phase for Oris and look forward to further developing their digital products.
