Migros asked the web agency Liip to help it develop both the front and back end of the new interface.
The API allows customers to search for products according to specialist store, brand, label or category. Product descriptions now include customer ratings taken from Migipedia. LeShop and the virtual shop fronts of Migros's specialist stores are directly linked up to the new API.
Users can also maintain and update their shopping list via the site, as well as carry out daily price checks and receive personalised product recommendations. All of the information provided by the API is also available on the new Migros smartphone app.
Thanks to this new API, Migros is able to offer complete access to its entire production range via a central system. From now on, information on Migros's many other online offerings will be sourced from thisĀ API. The interface therefore has a key role to play in the multichannel strategy of Switzerland's largest retailer.
Liip's back-end developers designed and devised the data analysis, the system architecture and the aggregation process. The system is built around the highly scalable and rapid open-source technology ElasticSearch. In regards to the front end, Liip designed and built the user interface.
